POSITIVE STUDENT INTERNSHIP COACHING

Your Internship is an exciting and challenging time in your career when you are transitioning from student to professional.  The contacts and connections you make during your internship may open the doors to many positions, moving your career successfully forward for many years.

However, for some Interns, a smooth successful internship feels overwhelming and daunting. 

This can lead to anxiety, depression, and fears that may block learning, performance, and ultimately postponing graduation for a semester, a year or dismissal from your bachelor's or master's program.

Supportive Green

Sometimes a little extra support, problem solving techniques, and encouragement are all that is needed to overcome challenges. This student would meet individually with Julie in her private office as well as phone conferences when needed. This would be appropriate for the student whose Internship is not at risk. This student would like more support and assistance than is appropriate from their Field Supervisor.

Moderate Intensive Yellow

This student finds getting through their day at their Internship to be overwhelming and needs more time, explanation, training, support, and problem solving than is appropriate for their Field Supervisor or is unable to provide. This Student Intern may be at-risk for not completing their internship.  This student is agreeable to have Julie work in conjunction with the targeted Field Supervisor, the University Program Field Placement Supervisor, and the Field Supervisor Professor and possibly this student's therapist as part of a team.  Releases would be signed by all parties involved. This student would meet with Julie in her private office and possibly at the Internship site.  This student may or may not be engaged in individual therapy.  "Moderate Intensive" would be to support and not interfere with the student's individual therapy.  

Extreme Intervention Red

This Student Intern is currently at high-risk for failing their Internship, graduating on-time and/or at risk for being dismissed from their program.   Julie would meet with the Student Intern more than once a week, in addition to connecting with the Professors, Field Supervisors, and the Student's Therapist more intensely and as needed. This intervention is to support and not interfere with this Student's current therapy.
